27 applications validated in Basildon borough this week: eight homes at Bowers Gifford, a change to the Billericay 130-homes deal and a listed hall's roof.

Basildon Council validated 27 planning applications in the week beginning 21 September, according to the weekly list on its planning register, read on Friday 25 September. Almost half are in Billericay and Great Burstead.

Most are extensions, tree works and certificates. Five are worth a closer look.

The ones to know about

  • Eight homes at Bowers Gifford. A full application seeks eight houses, with private parking and rear gardens, on land at the junction of Windsor Avenue and Upper Avenue, Windsor Road (26/01038/FULL).
  • A change to the Billericay London Road deal. An application seeks to vary the Section 106 agreement on the outline permission for land south of London Road (24/00980/OUT), which we covered in August. The register says the change would let Moat Homes charge its affordable homes at “Market Value Subject to Tenancy” under the mortgagee-in-possession clause, and would amend the enforceability clause for individual occupiers (26/00003/S106C). Clauses like this set what a lender can do with affordable homes if the housing association defaults.
  • Roof and chimney repairs at Great Chalvedon Hall, Pitsea. A listed building consent application covers local roof repairs, reused and matching tiles, internal strengthening, and taking the side chimney down to wallplate level and rebuilding it in salvaged brick and lime mortar (26/01030/LBBAS).
  • Harris Academy Wickford. The school has asked whether changes to cladding, the roof over the sports block stairway and a new fume cupboard flue can count as a non-material amendment to its 2025 consent, 25/00918/FULL (26/01041/NMABAS).
  • A classic car workshop turned private gym. A retrospective application at Blue Cedars, London Road, Billericay, seeks to keep a change of use from classic car storage and repair to a private gym, for at most nine people, with no membership and no visiting public (26/01042/FULL).
