The Crunch bulky waste collection returns on Saturday 14 November at six sites, from Little Burstead to Pitsea. Where to go and what it will not take.

Basildon Council’s Crunch bulky waste service returns on Saturday 14 November, with collection points in six places across the borough. Residents can bring large household items to council lorries instead of taking them to the tip.

The council announced the date this week. The next one after that is on Saturday 6 March 2027, according to the Crunch page.

Where to go on 14 November

The six collection points are:

  • Billericay: Little Burstead
  • Wickford: Wickford Main Car Park
  • Basildon: George Hurd Centre
  • Langdon Hills: Nightingales
  • Craylands: Wells Gardens
  • Pitsea: Winifred Road

The council has not yet published opening times for the day. We will add them here when it does.

What it will not take

The council’s list of refused items says the Crunch cannot accept:

  • anything too heavy for two people to lift, such as cast iron baths or pianos
  • hazardous waste, including asbestos, paint, oil, gas cylinders and car batteries
  • clinical waste, and commercial or trade waste
  • building and DIY waste: rubble, bricks, broken tiles, soil and plasterboard
  • bathroom suites, fitted kitchens, central heating systems, and internal or external doors
  • tyres, tree stumps or trunks, and wooden fence panels bigger than 5ft by 6ft

How much it collects

The September Crunch collected 98.39 tonnes of waste in a day, the council says, and 53% of it was recycled. The service has collected 461.47 tonnes so far in 2026, and 721.47 tonnes since it started.

Cllr George Jeffery, the Cabinet member for environment and leisure, said: “The response to the September event showed how valued this service is, with more than 98 tonnes collected in a single day.”

The council says it places the Crunch in communities to make it easier to get rid of bulky items responsibly and to help deter fly-tipping. It is paid for from the budget the former Area Committees used to spend, as we reported in September.

What it means for you

  • Check your items against the list first. Anything on it will be turned away.
  • Use whichever site is easiest. The council says residents can go to any of the six.
  • For everyday rubbish, your collection day is on our bin collection days page.
  • Missed this one? The next Crunch is on 6 March 2027.
