Barleylands' Father Christmas runs 28 November to Christmas Eve 2026. Last year Eastgate and Basildon Market ran free grottos. Every option, and what to book.
The borough has two kinds of Santa’s grotto: a paid, booked Father Christmas experience at Barleylands, and free grottos in Basildon town centre. Only the Barleylands one has 2026 dates so far.

Barleylands, Billericay: confirmed for 2026
Barleylands’ Christmas Experience runs on selected dates from Saturday 28 November to Christmas Eve 2026 (Barleylands). Its own description of the visit:
- an elf meets the family and takes you through the Magical Christmas Barn to Father Christmas in his grotto
- elves take photos on your own phone or camera
- a token for a present from the Toy Factory
- Mother Christmas’s kitchen, for making decorations and decorating gingerbread, plus a reindeer food station
- the rest of the day in the Farm Park, 10am to 4pm
Every booking has to include at least one child ticket, and babies under 12 months need a £10 ticket, without a present. The time on the ticket is when you see Father Christmas, not when you arrive, so Barleylands asks you to be at the Farm Park entrance at least 10 minutes earlier. Adult and child prices are shown when you choose a date on its booking system.

Eastgate Shopping Centre, Basildon: free, booking essential
Eastgate ran a free grotto in 2025 (Eastgate). It opened on the first three weekends of November (1 and 2, 8 and 9, 15 and 16) and then daily from 20 November to 24 December. Booking was essential.
Entry was free and photos were optional. Last year’s price list: a single photo frame £8, keyring £7.50, bauble £9.50, snow globe £12, two photo frames £12.50, and packages from £16.
Eastgate has not published a 2026 grotto page yet. Its general grotto page still carries an older year’s text, so check the date on anything you book.
Basildon Market: the council’s free grotto
In 2025 Basildon Council’s own events listings carried a free Christmas Grotto at Basildon Market, opened by the Mayor at the town centre Christmas event on 15 November. It ran from 10am to 12.30pm and 1.15pm to 4pm, free, with donations to St Luke’s Hospice welcomed (Basildon Council, 10 to 16 November 2025).
The same listings show it open on the Saturdays through December and on 21, 23 and 24 December, alongside free festive mini golf in the town centre (Basildon Council, 22 to 28 December 2025). The council also listed Santa’s Indoor Xmas Village at the market on 23 December.

- Wickford at Christmas, Sunday 30 November 2025, 12pm to 4.30pm on Wickford High Street: a Christmas parade, stalls, a Santa’s grotto and entertainment (Basildon Council, 24 to 30 November 2025)
- Santa’s Christmas Village, an immersive light trail and grotto with Mrs Claus and elves, on several December dates at Bowers & Pitsea FC, Crown Avenue SS13 2BE, booked through Eventbrite (Basildon Council)
- Billericay Christmas Market had a Santa’s Parade on the High Street (Basildon Council, 1 to 7 December 2025); this year’s market is on Sunday 6 December
