Lane closures start on Upper Mayne on Monday 5 October, then move to Broadmayne, Southernhay, East Mayne and South Mayne until 13 November. Every date here.

Lane closures start on Upper Mayne in Basildon on Monday 5 October. They are the first stage of a six-week programme of tree and verge work along the town’s main distributor roads.

Basildon Council announced the schedule on Friday. Crews will raise tree crowns, cut back self-seeded growth and sweep the roads. The council says lane closures will be in place while they work.

The programme runs until Friday 13 November. It moves along five roads in turn.

What it means for you

  • Watch for the Long Riding diversion. Essex County Council has advertised a 12-day closure of Long Riding in Barstable from Monday 12 October. Its signed diversion uses Broadmayne and Southernhay, the same roads that get lane closures from 14 to 29 October. The Long Riding closure is due to run to 23 October, so it overlaps all of the Broadmayne work.
  • Upper Mayne takes seven working days in total, split around the Roundacre roundabouts on Friday 9 October.
  • Allow extra time on these routes on the days listed. The council asks drivers to take care around the crews.
  • The Southernhay work is on the central reservation, along its full length, from 27 to 29 October.

The council describes this as “the first phase” of the works. It has not said which roads a second phase would cover.

Every other closure in the borough, including the A13 40mph limit through Vange and Pitsea and the Cranfield Park Road closure in Wickford, is on our Basildon roadworks and travel page, which we update each week.
